A Word About Tariffs
Small businesses like ours are caught in a very difficult position with high tariffs for both import and export of our PantoRouter® woodworking joinery machine and accessories.
We try to buy nothing from China and truly believed that Taiwan, the country of origin for our main machine, would be more favorably treated, but Taiwan is currently subject to a penalty tariff of over 30%. We are fortunate to have received our last shipment just prior to the increased tariff so for the short term, we do not have to dramatically increase prices of PantoRouters. Unfortunately, we have no idea what the future will bring but we’re watching it carefully.
Also highly unfortunate is the 25% reciprocal penalty tariff imposed by the Canadian Government on US imports, but there appears to be some good news because only the items made in USA are subject to this penalty. Since Taiwan and Mexico are not being penalized, we will declare the Country of Origin and itemize the shipment to show the true and fair value of the items subject to tariff (Made in USA) and the items not made in USA and therefor not subject to the tariff penalty. The Bosch routers are marked “Made in Mexico” on their boxes so should not be subject to the retaliatory tariff. The same should go for shipments to other countries, but we can’t be sure without further research.
We hope things settle soon and a more reasonable tariff system replaces the current one, but until we know for sure, we are planning a significant price increase in the weeks ahead. We have PantoRouters in stock at the price before tariff, so if you’ve been thinking about a PantoRouter®, now would be a good time to order.
